During his visit, the Army Chief inspected the devastation caused by recent heavy rains and floods in Sialkot, Shakargarh, Narowal, and Kartarpur. He conducted an aerial survey of the affected regions and personally met with local communities, including members of the Sikh community who expressed concerns over the damage to Kartarpur Sahib.
Speaking on the occasion, Field Marshal Asim Munir assured the Sikh community that every religious site damaged in the floods will be restored to its original condition on a priority basis. He said that the protection of minority rights and heritage was the responsibility of the state, and Pakistan remained committed to this cause.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army Chief praised the joint efforts of civil administration and military teams, describing their rescue and relief operations as “tireless and commendable.” He also directed the authorities to stay fully prepared for any further rains in the coming days.
The Army Chief’s reassurance, particularly regarding the Kartarpur Sahib restoration, was widely welcomed. Observers note that this move highlights Pakistan’s commitment to religious harmony and the safeguarding of historical landmarks for future generations.
