Conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, was fatally shot during a campus rally at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Thursday. The incident occurred while Kirk was addressing students as part of his “American Comeback Tour.”

According to initial reports, the 31-year-old commentator was interacting with the audience during his trademark “Prove Me Wrong” segment when gunfire erupted. Eyewitnesses said a loud crack was heard inside the Losee Center auditorium before Kirk collapsed on stage. Panic broke out as hundreds of students and attendees rushed for cover while security personnel escorted others out of the venue.

Law enforcement later confirmed that the gunfire originated from a building nearly 200 yards away from the rally site. Investigators believe the shooter fired from an elevated position, striking Kirk in the neck. Emergency medical teams rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Authorities initially detained one individual, but police later clarified that the person was not connected to the attack. As of late Wednesday night, the gunman remained at large. FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have joined local police in the investigation. The campus was immediately locked down, and classes were suspended until further notice.

The tragic death of Charlie Kirk has sent shockwaves through the political and academic community. Former President Donald Trump confirmed the news in a post on Truth Social, calling Kirk “a great and legendary patriot.” Vice President J.D. Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and several Republican lawmakers strongly condemned the act of violence and expressed condolences to Kirk’s family.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the incident as “a dark day for our state,” assuring the public that every resource would be used to bring the perpetrator to justice. University officials also expressed grief over the tragedy, calling it an attack not only on a speaker but on the values of free expression.

Charlie Kirk was a prominent figure among young conservatives and a key supporter of Donald Trump during his presidency. He regularly appeared on television, authored books, and led nationwide student movements under his organization Turning Point USA.

As investigations continue, police have urged anyone with information to come forward. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and officials have not ruled out the possibility of political intent.
