Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa Dogar on Thursday issued a stern warning to a lawyer during a fiery Supreme Court hearing on the controversial ban of the Baloch National Movement (BNM).

During the proceedings, tensions ran high as the petitioner’s counsel argued that the government’s move to ban the group was unconstitutional and politically motivated. Reports suggest that Chief Justice Dogar, visibly agitated by repeated interruptions and confrontational arguments, cautioned the lawyer to maintain decorum or risk contempt of court proceedings.

According to courtroom observers, the chief justice stressed that while lawyers had the right to defend their clients, they must do so with respect for the court’s authority. “This is not a political rally — this is the Supreme Court,” he remarked, drawing attention to the heated exchanges that unfolded.

The case revolves around the government’s recent decision to outlaw the Baloch National Movement under anti-terror laws, a step that has sparked widespread debate over human rights, security, and political freedoms in Balochistan.

The federal government maintains that the ban was necessary due to the group’s alleged links with separatist activities, while rights advocates argue that the move suppresses legitimate dissent.

The hearing has now been adjourned until next week, with the bench expected to hear further arguments from both sides.
