The Drug Control Directorate has carried out a large-scale crackdown, recovering a significant quantity of fake medicines being sold for common ailments including fever, body aches, gynecological diseases, and anxiety disorders.
According to officials, the raid was conducted following intelligence reports of counterfeit drugs being supplied to local markets. The recovered stock included tablets, syrups, and injections falsely labeled under popular pharmaceutical brands.
Authorities confirmed that the fake drugs posed serious health risks to patients, as they contained either substandard ingredients or no active pharmaceutical compounds at all. Several suspects have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to trace the network behind the illegal trade.
Health experts have warned the public against purchasing medicines from unauthorized vendors, emphasizing the importance of verifying the source and ensuring medicines carry proper registration marks.
The Drug Control Directorate stated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and monitoring teams will continue surprise inspections to curb the spread of counterfeit medicines across Punjab and other provinces.
This crackdown has been welcomed by healthcare professionals, who have long demanded tighter regulations to protect citizens from the growing menace of fake pharmaceuticals.
