Rawalpindi: Security officials at Adiala Jail have reportedly conducted a search of the social media accounts linked to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan. According to jail authorities, the inspection was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged misuse of social media platforms for political messaging from within the prison.
Officials stated that the search aimed to verify whether accounts allegedly operating under Khan’s name were being managed directly from inside Adiala Jail. While Khan has been barred from direct access to mobile phones and the internet under prison regulations, investigators are said to be probing possible indirect communication channels.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan, where PTI has frequently alleged censorship and restrictions on its online platforms. Supporters of Imran Khan continue to dominate the digital space, making social media a key battleground for political narratives.
Authorities have not confirmed if any evidence was recovered during the search. PTI representatives have dismissed the reports as an attempt to further limit Khan’s communication with the public, claiming that party-run accounts are managed independently outside of the prison.
The issue has sparked debate over political freedoms, digital surveillance, and the role of social media in shaping Pakistan’s political landscape ahead of upcoming elections.
