Continuous rainfall in Karachi once again disrupted the city’s fragile power system, plunging several neighborhoods into darkness. According to reports, more than 250 K-Electric feeders tripped during the downpour, leading to large-scale outages across the metropolis.
Residents in multiple localities complained that power supply remained suspended for several hours. Areas such as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Karachi, Nazimabad, Buffer Zone, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Surjani Town, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Malir, and Scheme 33 were among the worst affected.
Despite repeated complaints, K-Electric was accused of failing to provide effective responses to consumers. Citizens expressed frustration over the utility company’s inability to maintain stable electricity supply during rain, which has become a recurring problem for Karachi.
The outages not only caused hardship for households but also disrupted businesses and essential services. Waterlogging on major roads, coupled with the absence of electricity, added to the difficulties faced by commuters and residents.
Authorities have urged K-Electric to take immediate steps to restore supply and ensure continuity, particularly as more rainfall is forecast in the coming hours.
