Security forces conducted an overnight raid in Dalbandin, Balochistan, in which activist and lawyer Advocate Zubair Baloch was killed, official sources confirmed on Tuesday.
According to initial reports, the operation was carried out following intelligence about suspected militant activity in the area. Security forces surrounded a compound and exchanged fire with those inside. During the raid, Advocate Zubair Baloch was killed.
Authorities have yet to release a detailed statement on the incident, but sources allege that Baloch had links with separatist elements operating in the region. His supporters, however, describe him as a prominent advocate and political activist, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Local residents said heavy firing was heard late at night, and security forces maintained a strong presence in the area after the operation. The body of Zubair Baloch has been shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.
The incident is likely to spark strong political and social reactions, as rights groups and Baloch nationalist leaders have often accused security forces of targeting activists under the pretext of counterterrorism operations.
