Across Pakistan, citizens gathered on Sunday evening to collectively chant the Azan as part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) campaign, “Mission Noor”, demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for over 774 days.
The synchronized call to prayer echoed in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta, where thousands of PTI supporters joined together in public spaces and on rooftops. Videos shared online showed families, youth, and elderly participants raising their voices in unison, creating a powerful spiritual atmosphere.
PTI leaders described the campaign as a “peaceful yet symbolic protest,” aimed at highlighting both the party’s religious connection with the people and their demand for justice. They added that the Azan was chosen as a unifying act to remind Pakistanis of their shared faith and resilience.
Political observers say “Mission Noor” reflects PTI’s strategy of combining religious symbolism with political mobilization, giving the movement fresh momentum. Social media platforms were flooded with hashtags supporting Imran Khan, with millions of posts trending globally.
The government has not yet issued an official response, but security was heightened in several cities amid concerns of mass demonstrations in the coming days.
