Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning, saying it would be “very bad” for Afghanistan if Bagram Air Base is not returned to Afghan control.
Speaking at a recent event, Trump criticized the U.S. withdrawal strategy and reiterated that the loss of Bagram was a strategic mistake. He argued that the air base, located near Kabul, was vital not only for Afghan security but also for regional stability.
“Bagram should never have been given up. It was one of the most powerful bases in the world,” Trump said, adding that without its return, Afghanistan could face heightened instability and greater influence from rival powers.
The former president also suggested that the absence of U.S. and Afghan control over Bagram has created a vacuum that could be exploited by terrorist groups and foreign actors.
