The Ministry of National Health Services on Monday announced the successful completion of a special nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign, aimed at protecting millions of children under the age of five from the crippling disease.
Campaign Coverage
- According to official figures, over 44 million children were targeted across all provinces, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
- The campaign mobilized over 350,000 frontline health workers, including vaccinators, supervisors, and volunteers, who went door-to-door to ensure no child was left unprotected.
- Special focus was given to high-risk districts where environmental samples previously showed the presence of the poliovirus.
Government’s Statement
Federal Health Minister lauded the commitment of frontline workers, security personnel, and provincial health departments.
“The eradication of polio remains a top national priority. With the nation’s support, we are determined to make Pakistan polio-free,” the Minister stated.
International Support
The campaign was conducted in partnership with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), UNICEF, and WHO, who reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Pakistan until the virus is completely eliminated.
Public Response
Parents and community leaders in several districts expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting improved awareness and accessibility compared to previous drives.
