Thousands of supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) poured into Peshawar today for a large rally demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned on charges his party describes as politically motivated.
The demonstration, led by PTI leaders and workers, saw processions of people waving party flags, carrying portraits of Imran Khan, and chanting slogans calling for his immediate freedom. Speakers at the event condemned the ongoing detention, saying it violates democratic principles and amounts to political victimisation.
High-profile PTI figures were in attendance, including regional general secretaries and provincial assembly members from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They addressed the crowd, vowing to continue their struggle until Imran Khan is released. Organisers described the turnout as a demonstration of the undiminished popularity of PTI in its strongholds.
Several protesters criticised the federal government over what they call an erosion of rule of law, judicial fairness, and basic civil rights. They demanded accountability for Imran Khan’s detention and called for transparent investigations into cases against him.
Security was tight around the rally site, though no major clashes were reported. Traffic around central areas was disrupted due to the large crowds. Local authorities kept a watchful presence to maintain order.
The rally adds to a series of nationwide protests by PTI demanding Imran Khan’s release, marking the issue as one of the biggest challenges facing the current government.
