Recently, the Qayyumabad Chowrangi area in Karachi has experienced severe traffic congestion, causing major difficulties for commuters. The jam has been largely attributed to blocked main roads and flooding caused by heavy rains.
🛑 Causes of the Traffic Jam
Flooding at Malir River:
- Heavy rainfall has raised water levels in the Malir River, leading to the closure of Korangi Crossing Road and EBM Causeway. This, in turn, created long traffic jams at Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Bleach Colony Expressway, and Jam Sadiq Bridge.
Poor Traffic Planning:
- Commuters criticized the absence of traffic police and lack of alternative routes. One passenger said, “It was a nightmare. I left home at 8 AM and could not reach my office until afternoon.”
🚧 Alternative Routes and Government Action
Alternative Routes:- Traffic police had closed routes near Korangi River, increasing pressure on Qayyumabad Chowrangi and the Jam Sadiq Bridge overpass.
- Authorities have promised immediate action to deal with the flood situation. However, residents claim there was insufficient prior planning and no proper traffic management in place.
🗣️ Citizens’ Views
Commuters have urged authorities to implement effective measures to improve traffic flow during the monsoon season. One citizen said, “Despite forecasts, there was no practical traffic plan. We wasted fuel, time, and faced unnecessary stress.”
📌 Conclusion
The traffic jam at Qayyumabad Chowrangi highlights gaps in Karachi’s traffic management system. To ease the daily struggles of residents, authorities need proper planning and timely action.
