Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative, the “Middle East Greatness Opportunity” (MEGO), as diplomatic efforts over Gaza near their final stages.

Trump, speaking at a press conference in Washington, described MEGO as a comprehensive economic and political framework aimed at stabilizing the Middle East. He emphasized that the plan seeks to encourage investment, strengthen regional security cooperation, and pave the way for sustainable peace once negotiations in Gaza conclude.

“The Middle East has suffered for decades from instability, conflict, and missed opportunities,” Trump said. “The Greatness Opportunity is about building prosperity, jobs, and peace for the people of the region.”

According to Trump, the initiative will include major infrastructure projects, energy partnerships, and trade incentives, with support expected from American businesses and regional allies. Analysts believe MEGO could be positioned as part of Trump’s broader foreign policy legacy, particularly if Gaza talks end with a workable agreement between Israel and Palestinian representatives.

Political observers, however, remain cautious. Critics argue that previous peace-related initiatives in the region, including the Abraham Accords, faced challenges in implementation. Still, Trump’s announcement comes at a critical juncture, as negotiators push to finalize terms that could ease humanitarian suffering in Gaza and establish frameworks for long-term stability.

The White House and State Department have yet to comment officially on Trump’s proposal, though sources say discussions are ongoing about potential bipartisan support for U.S. involvement in the plan.

As Gaza negotiations approach their conclusion, the Middle East—and the international community—awaits to see whether the “Greatness Opportunity” will bring meaningful change or remain another unfulfilled vision.
