The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, was placed under lockdown today after reports emerged of a potential armed threat on campus. The incident triggered a swift response from military police and local law enforcement agencies.
According to initial reports, a former midshipman who had been expelled from the Academy allegedly returned armed and was seen near Bancroft Hall, the primary dormitory for midshipmen. Unverified accounts also suggested that gunshots were heard inside the building, though officials have not confirmed this.
The Naval Support Activity Annapolis issued an advisory confirming that the lockdown was enforced “out of an abundance of caution.” Students and staff were instructed to shelter in place as heavily armed police units entered the premises to secure the area.
Witnesses reported panic as some individuals rushed into buildings with their hands raised, while others took cover in classrooms and administrative offices.
As of now, there is no official confirmation of casualties or arrests. The Academy has stated that the situation is still under investigation, and more details will be released once verified.
