In a significant diplomatic development, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in the South Korean city of Busan, marking their first face-to-face meeting in six years. The encounter, described as cordial and constructive, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key global challenges.

At the start of the meeting, President Trump expressed his pleasure at seeing the Chinese leader again, saying, “It’s a pleasure to meet you once more.” He emphasized the importance of long-term, stable relations between the two nations and noted that the United States and China have already reached consensus on several major issues, while expressing optimism that further agreements would be achieved during the talks.

Trump also hinted at the possibility of a new trade deal between Washington and Beijing, signaling a potential thaw in the tense economic relations that have defined recent years.

President Xi Jinping, in response, stated that China and the United States should be friends rather than rivals, and stressed the need for open and honest dialogue on matters of mutual interest. He acknowledged that both nations’ trade teams had reached agreement on fundamental points, paving the way for a more stable and cooperative economic environment.

Xi praised President Trump’s role in brokering the recent Gaza ceasefire, commending his contribution to regional peace efforts. He added that China, too, remains committed to promoting peaceful dialogue and conflict resolution across the world.

“Differences between China and the United States are normal,” Xi noted, “but I am ready to continue working with you to strengthen the foundation of our bilateral relationship.”

Before the meeting began, President Trump arrived in Busan and greeted President Xi with a handshake as both leaders posed for photographs, signaling a moment of renewed diplomatic engagement between the two global powers.
