U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that bringing an end to the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be “very easy” for him. Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump said he prefers resolving wars rather than escalating them and is fully aware of the recent border tensions between the two neighboring countries.
“I like stopping wars,” Trump said. “I’m aware of what’s happening along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, and ending that conflict would be very easy for me.”
During his remarks, the former president once again referenced the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, stating that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had credited him for helping to prevent a potential war between the two nuclear-armed nations. “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told me I saved millions of lives by helping end the Pakistan-India conflict,” Trump noted.
The recent escalation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border saw several attacks from the Afghan side, prompting Pakistan to retaliate by targeting terrorist hideouts across the border — resulting in the deaths of dozens of militants.
Initially, Pakistan and the Taliban-led Afghan regime agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, which has now been extended following successful talks in Doha. According to British news agencies, the truce will remain in place until negotiations between both sides are fully concluded.
