Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and U.S. President Donald Trump met on the sidelines of the Gaza Peace Summit held in Egypt’s resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where the two leaders exchanged warm greetings and engaged in a brief but cordial conversation.
According to official sources, President Trump greeted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a firm handshake, expressing optimism about Pakistan’s positive role in regional stability. Both leaders shared light and friendly remarks before attending the main session of the summit.
The Gaza Peace Summit, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, brought together leaders and representatives from 28 countries and major international organizations, including the United Nations, the European Union, and the Arab League. The focus of the summit was to reinforce the newly established Gaza ceasefire and to discuss international efforts toward long-term peace and humanitarian rebuilding in the region.
Earlier, upon his arrival at the Congress Center in Sharm El-Sheikh, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was warmly received by President El-Sisi. The two leaders exchanged views on regional peace and bilateral cooperation before the formal proceedings began.
Before the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held several important bilateral meetings with key global and regional leaders. These included:
- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, discussing the post-war reconstruction of Gaza and Pakistan’s continued support for the Palestinian cause.
- President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, in separate meetings, where regional peace and bilateral ties were discussed.
- King Abdullah II of Jordan and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, focusing on Muslim unity and support for Gaza’s reconstruction.
- UN Secretary-General António Guterres, where humanitarian access and coordination for Gaza aid were key topics.
- Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, with whom the Prime Minister discussed strengthening Pakistan–Saudi relations and collaborative efforts for Middle East peace.
- German Chancellor, the Prime Ministers of Spain and Italy, and the President of Indonesia, all reaffirming their countries’ commitment to humanitarian assistance and lasting peace in Gaza.
During the summit, leaders emphasized the urgent need for sustained ceasefire implementation, safe delivery of humanitarian aid, and a political roadmap for a two-state solution.
The meeting between Shehbaz Sharif and Donald Trump marked a significant diplomatic interaction, symbolizing renewed engagement between Pakistan and the United States amid ongoing regional developments.
