The Punjab cabinet, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has officially approved a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) following a series of violent protests related to the Gaza conflict. The recommendation has been forwarded to the federal government for final approval under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to provincial officials, the decision comes after deadly clashes in Lahore and Muridke, where at least 15 people were killed and dozens injured during TLP-led demonstrations that turned violent earlier this month. The government has also ordered the freezing of the group’s bank accounts, seizure of properties, and removal of its propaganda materials from public spaces and online platforms.

Authorities have enforced Section 144 across Punjab to prevent further gatherings and unrest, as security forces remain on high alert in sensitive districts. The move underscores the government’s resolve to curb extremism and protect public order, amid TLP’s long-standing record of violent street protests and blasphemy-related campaigns.

Observers believe the crackdown marks one of the most decisive actions taken by the Punjab administration to restore peace and discourage religiously fueled violence.
