The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain of the national One Day International (ODI) team, replacing Mohammad Rizwan. Afridi will lead Pakistan in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, scheduled from November 4 to 8 at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
The decision was finalized during a meeting in Islamabad, which was attended by head coach Mike Hesson, high-performance director Aaqib Javed, and members of the national selection committee.
Shaheen Afridi, one of Pakistan’s premier fast bowlers, has represented the country in 66 ODIs and 92 T20 Internationals, claiming a combined total of 249 wickets. In addition, he has taken 120 wickets in 32 Test matches, solidifying his reputation as a key figure in Pakistan’s bowling attack.
Earlier this year, Afridi also captained Pakistan during the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, showcasing his growing leadership role within the team.
Afridi’s appointment marks a new chapter for Pakistan cricket as the team looks to rebuild under fresh leadership ahead of major international tournaments.
