Afghan Authorities Warn of Immediate Retaliation if Pakistan Strikes

Afghan officials have warned that any attack originating from Pakistan will be met with “immediate retaliatory action,” according to foreign news agencies, signaling a sharp rise in tensions between the neighbouring countries.

Taliban-led authorities stated Islamabad would be directly targeted should cross-border strikes occur, and declared that Afghanistan’s policy of “reciprocal response” is now official. The statement framed the warning as a defensive measure to protect Afghan territory and sovereignty.

At the same time, Afghan spokesmen said their delegation remains serious and committed to talks, but accused the Pakistani negotiating team of displaying an unserious attitude during recent discussions — a charge likely to complicate future diplomacy.

Security sources further reported that provocative, anti-Pakistan slogans were sung at recent public events in Afghanistan, including a police academy passing-out parade. Officials said some songs called for violent acts against Islamabad and even referenced symbolic threats against Pakistani cities.

Taliban minister Nurullah Nuri has been reported to issue warnings against provinces such as Sindh and Punjab, while Taliban-linked digital channels have repeatedly threatened attacks on the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Pakistani authorities have not publicly escalated rhetoric but have signalled they are monitoring the situation closely.

Diplomats and analysts warn the exchange of threats and hostile rhetoric raises the risk of miscalculation. They urged both sides to prioritise direct communication channels and sustained diplomacy to prevent a dangerous escalation along the porous border.
