Pakistan’s star cricketer Babar Azam has said he prefers to stay focused on his game rather than respond to critics who questioned his performance over the past two years. Speaking at a press conference after Pakistan’s dominant win against Sri Lanka in the second ODI, Babar made it clear that his job is to play cricket and perform on the field.
Reflecting on recent challenges, Babar said he had worked extensively on his fitness, batting, and fielding to overcome the difficult phase. He advised players to maintain self-belief during tough times, adding that confidence and hard work helped him return to form.
Babar expressed gratitude to fans for standing by him even when he struggled. “The support from fans during tough moments gave me immense motivation,” he said. He added that his innings in the second ODI were played exactly according to the team’s plan, and scoring a century helped restore his confidence. “I trusted myself to reach the hundred,” he noted.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the second match of the three-match ODI series, securing the series win.
During the game, Babar Azam scored his 20th ODI century, matching the national record held by former batting great Saeed Anwar. While Anwar reached 20 centuries in 244 innings, Babar achieved the same milestone in just 136 innings, becoming the third-fastest player in the world to score 20 ODI centuries.
