India has almost completely stopped purchasing oil from Russia following growing pressure from the United States. According to international media reports, India has suspended all new orders for Russian crude for the coming month, a move that normally takes place by the 10th of each month.

The country’s five major oil refineries have not placed any new orders with Russian suppliers. The state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) confirmed it will now only buy oil from non-sanctioned suppliers.

U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier imposed a 50% tariff on India for buying Russian oil, warning that such purchases were “fueling the war machine in Ukraine.” Following Washington’s pressure, India assured the U.S. that it would reduce future imports of Russian crude.

Analysts believe this decision marks a major shift in India’s energy policy and could have significant implications for global oil markets.
