The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has rejected a proposal to alter the National Finance Commission (NFC) formula as part of the upcoming 27th Constitutional Amendment.

The decision was made during a meeting of the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC), which was convened to deliberate on the amendment’s key provisions.

Addressing a press briefing after the meeting, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced that the party had firmly rejected the proposed change to the NFC formula, emphasizing that the formula ensures provincial autonomy and fiscal balance. He added that the CEC also did not approve several other proposed clauses in the amendment.

However, Bilawal confirmed that the CEC approved the proposed amendment to Article 243, which pertains to the command and structure of the armed forces.

Regarding the establishment of a Constitutional Court, Bilawal said that the party believes each province should have equal representation in such a judicial body. “The CEC will reconvene after Friday prayers to finalize its stance on the proposed Constitutional Court,” he stated.

It is worth noting that the federal cabinet is expected to approve the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment later today. According to sources, the cabinet will be briefed on the amendment before giving its formal approval.
