U.S. President Donald Trump has formally requested a presidential pardon for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sending a letter to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, according to international news agencies.
President Herzog confirmed receiving the letter, stating that Netanyahu currently faces three corruption trials, including charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust that have been ongoing since 2019.
Herzog clarified that any request for a presidential pardon must be submitted according to Israel’s established legal procedures.
In the letter, Trump described the allegations against Netanyahu as politically motivated and “unfair prosecutorial actions.” He emphasized Netanyahu’s role in leading Israel under challenging circumstances, urging consideration for a pardon.
