US President Donald Trump has cautioned that Chinese President Xi Jinping fully understands the consequences if China attempts to seize Taiwan — though he refused to clarify whether the United States would intervene militarily in such a scenario.
In an interview with CBS News, Trump revealed that Taiwan was not discussed during his recent meeting with President Xi. When asked if the US military would respond to a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan, Trump cryptically replied, “If that happens, you’ll find out — and he knows the answer.”
The President declined to provide further details, saying, “I can’t reveal my secrets, but the other side knows everything.”
Trump went on to claim that President Xi and his inner circle have openly stated they would not take any aggressive action against Taiwan during Trump’s presidency, as they were well aware of the “serious consequences” such a move would bring.
The comments come amid rising tensions in the South China Sea and growing speculation about China’s intentions toward Taiwan, with analysts noting that Trump’s ambiguous stance could be aimed at maintaining strategic unpredictability.
