YouTube has taken down more than 700 videos and suspended the channels of several prominent Palestinian human rights organizations, citing compliance with U.S. sanctions imposed by the Trump administration in September 2025.

The affected organizations — Al-Haq, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) — had uploaded extensive documentation of alleged Israeli violations in Gaza and the West Bank. YouTube confirmed that the removals were carried out in early October to ensure adherence to U.S. law governing sanctioned entities.

The sanctions, announced by the Trump administration, targeted these groups for their cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in ongoing investigations into potential war crimes committed during Israeli military operations. The move has been widely condemned by human rights advocates and UN experts, who argue that it undermines freedom of expression and the vital work of civil society in documenting abuses.

Amnesty International criticized both the U.S. sanctions and YouTube’s enforcement, calling the actions “a dangerous precedent for digital censorship driven by political pressure.” Meanwhile, independent journalists, including Robert Inlakesh, also reported losing their YouTube accounts after publishing similar material related to Israeli-Palestinian conflict documentation.

Observers warn that the incident reflects an emerging trend where tech platforms align with political sanctions, raising questions about the neutrality of digital spaces and their role in preserving human rights records.
