A powerful explosion struck Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Tuesday, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries, according to foreign news agencies and Afghan officials.
The blast occurred in the Shahr-e-Naw area, a central district of Kabul, leaving several people dead and wounded. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and immediately shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani confirmed the incident, stating that multiple people had lost their lives in the explosion. He added that further details regarding the incident would be released shortly.
Shahr-e-Naw is considered one of Kabul’s relatively secure areas and is known for housing foreign residents as well as several important installations. The explosion in such a location has raised serious security concerns.
Authorities said that the nature of the explosion and the exact number of casualties have not yet been determined. Investigations are underway to assess the cause and scale of the incident.
Security forces have cordoned off the area as emergency operations continue, while officials work to gather more information about the blast.
