The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to introduce a player auction system for its 11th edition, following key decisions taken during a late-night meeting of the PSL Governing Council’s Working Committee, sources revealed.

According to sources, extensive discussions were held on player auction, draft, and retention mechanisms during the meeting. After deliberations, the committee agreed to introduce a player auction model for PSL 11, marking a significant shift in the league’s player selection process.

Sources said a decision has also been finalized regarding player retentions for the upcoming season. Five existing franchises have reportedly agreed on retaining four players each, including one designated as a brand ambassador.

Under the proposed formula, each of the five retentions will be selected from different categories, while one player may be moved to a lower category to be appointed as a brand ambassador. The remaining players will be placed in a common pool for the auction process.

PSL champions Lahore Qalandars voted in favor of introducing the auction system. Other franchises supporting the move include Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Hyderabad. Meanwhile, two newly added franchises reportedly pushed for zero retentions ahead of the auction.

Sources added that new franchises will select players from the remaining pool, while the rest of the available players will be auctioned, allowing franchises to bid and build their squads through the auction system.

The working committee’s decisions will now be sent to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for final approval. If required, a full meeting of the PSL Governing Council may also be convened.

According to sources, the finalized auction and retention formula will be submitted to Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with an official announcement expected within the next one or two days.
