Imran claims only 15pc vision left in right eye, Report Details Daily Routine and Living Conditions

A newly surfaced report on the facilities available to former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail has revealed significant concerns about his health, including a sharp decline in vision in his right eye. According to the document, Khan has claimed that the eyesight in one eye has been reduced to just 15 percent following the formation of a blood clot, raising fresh debate over his medical care in custody.

The report offers a detailed account of Khan’s daily routine, security arrangements, medical complaints, and living conditions, providing rare insight into his confinement.

Claim of Severe Vision Loss Raises Medical Concerns

The most serious revelation in the report relates to Khan’s deteriorating eyesight. The former premier reportedly stated that until October 2025, both of his eyes had normal 6×6 vision. However, over the past three to four months, he began experiencing persistent blurriness and fading vision.

Khan claimed that he repeatedly informed the then jail superintendent about the issue but no effective medical intervention was arranged at the time. According to his account, the situation worsened abruptly when he suddenly lost vision in his right eye. A specialist from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), ophthalmologist Dr. Muhammad Arif, was later called to examine him.

Doctors reportedly diagnosed a blood clot in his eye, which caused severe damage. Despite medical treatment, including an injection, Khan maintains that his right eye’s vision has only partially recovered and currently stands at approximately 15 percent.

He has demanded that his personal physicians, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousaf, be permitted to conduct an independent examination. The report notes that he is also open to evaluation by any qualified specialist.

Security Measures and Surveillance Inside the Compound

The document states that Khan has expressed no concerns regarding his personal safety inside the prison. Approximately ten CCTV cameras have been installed within the compound used for his confinement. While one camera reportedly covers part of the washroom area, no surveillance device has been placed inside the main cell itself.

His cell block is located about a five-minute walk from the main Adiala Jail complex. According to the report, from approximately 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. the following morning, Khan remains confined to his cell, with limited outdoor access during the day.

A Structured Daily Routine in Confinement

The report describes Khan’s daily schedule as structured and disciplined. He reportedly has breakfast at around 9:45 a.m., typically consisting of a cup of coffee, porridge, and a few dates.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., he spends nearly an hour reciting the Holy Quran. Afterward, he engages in physical exercise using limited workout equipment available to him. Around 1:15 p.m., following a bath, he is allowed access to a shaded walking area within the secure compound, where he may either sit or walk.

Lunch is usually served between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The menu, selected through weekly planning, reportedly includes chicken on two days, beef on two days, lentils on two days, and chaat or light snacks on other days. The report states that the cost of his lunch is borne by his family.

Khan has also indicated that he does not always consume full meals, preferring fruits, milk, and dates instead. Bottled drinking water from a private company is provided to him.

Cell Conditions and Available Facilities

The report gives a detailed inventory of Khan’s cell. The room contains three high-voltage bulbs, a ceiling fan, and a blower heater. Furnishings include two tables, a wall clock, a charpoy-style bed with a single mattress, four pillows, two blankets, one chair described as uncomfortable, and a small rack. Clothes are hung on five hangers, as no wardrobe is available.

A 32-inch television is mounted on the wall, though it was reportedly found to be non-functional when switched on. Nearly 100 books are placed on a table, along with two apples and a pair of dumbbells. Personal care items such as tissue paper, mouthwash, air freshener, shaving gel, and a shaving kit are also present. A prayer mat and rosary beads are kept inside the cell.

The attached toilet area measures approximately four-and-a-half by four-and-a-half feet and is separated by a four-foot wall without a ceiling. Outside the toilet area, both hot and cold water facilities, a washbasin, and a mirror are available.

The cell block kitchen contains utensils, crockery, and cooking equipment. Food supplies, including spices and dry fruits, are stored in jars and sealed containers. However, the report notes that there is room for improvement in overall kitchen cleanliness.

Political and Public Implications

The revelations are likely to intensify political debate over the treatment of high-profile detainees in Pakistan. PTI supporters have repeatedly raised concerns about Khan’s health and access to medical care, while government officials have previously maintained that he is being provided facilities in accordance with jail regulations.

The issue of medical oversight in prisons has also drawn broader human rights scrutiny in recent years. If Khan’s claims about delayed treatment are substantiated, they could further fuel demands for independent monitoring mechanisms for inmates’ healthcare.

As legal proceedings against the former prime minister continue, attention is expected to remain focused not only on courtroom developments but also on his physical condition behind bars. With calls for specialized medical examination growing louder, the coming weeks may prove critical in determining how authorities respond to concerns over his deteriorating eyesight and overall well-being.
