Punjab’s ongoing flood crisis has forced health authorities to postpone the anti-polio vaccination drive in nine districts. According to officials, severe flooding has disrupted road access, displaced thousands of families, and created logistical hurdles for vaccination teams.
The campaign, which was scheduled to begin this week, aimed to immunize children under the age of five against the poliovirus. However, with many areas submerged and relief operations underway, health workers have been diverted to assist with emergency services.
Authorities confirmed that once the situation improves, the campaign will resume to ensure no child is left unvaccinated. Pakistan remains one of the few countries still battling polio, making such interruptions a serious public health concern.
Health experts have urged parents in safe areas to cooperate with vaccination teams and stressed that maintaining routine immunization is essential despite the ongoing crisis.
