Flow Continues to Rise at Head Marala on Chenab River | Dangerous floods in Punjab

SIALKOT: The water flow in the Chenab River at Head Marala continues to climb, prompting serious flood alerts across Punjab, officials confirmed.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, the Chenab River’s discharge has already exceeded 400,000 cusecs and is projected to reach 600,000 cusecs by late tonight, raising the danger level to “very
high.

The escalation has placed key administrative units—including Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad—on heightened alert. Evacuation plans are underway for residents living close to riverbanks, and communities are being urged to stay vigilant.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia warned of severe flood risks and emphasized the importance of swiftly implementing safety protocols, including mosque-based announcements and community readiness
