Punjab is facing one of the worst floods in its recent history after continuous heavy monsoon rains and the release of excess water from rivers. The disaster has submerged hundreds of villages, displacing millions of people and destroying crops standing on millions of acres of farmland.
According to officials, nearly 2 million residents are at risk, while thousands have already been evacuated to safer areas. Rescue operations are underway across several districts, with the army, rescue agencies, and volunteers working to move stranded families to relief camps.
Floodwaters have caused widespread damage to standing crops of cotton, rice, sugarcane, and maize. Farmers fear massive financial losses as large portions of fertile land remain underwater. Experts warn that the impact could lead to a serious food shortage and economic setback in the coming months.
Authorities have declared an emergency in the worst-hit districts, setting up temporary shelters and medical camps. Relief efforts include the distribution of food, clean drinking water, and medicines. However, access to many remote villages remains difficult due to washed-away roads and collapsed bridges.
Meteorologists have warned that further rainfall could worsen the crisis, urging people in low-lying areas to move to higher ground immediately.
The Punjab government has appealed to the federal authorities and international aid organizations for assistance, as the scale of destruction continues to grow with every passing hour.
