Islamabad: The federal government has announced a revision in fuel prices, keeping the price of petrol unchanged while reducing the rate of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 3 per litre. The new prices, notified by the Ministry of Finance, came into effect from September 1, 2025.

According to the notification, petrol will continue to be sold at Rs 264.61 per litre, whereas the price of HSD has been revised downward to Rs 269.99 per litre.

Impact of the Decision:

The reduction in diesel prices is expected to provide some relief to the transport and agriculture sectors, which are heavily dependent on diesel. Transporters and goods carriers may benefit directly from lower operational costs, while farmers using diesel-run machinery could also see reduced expenses during cultivation and harvesting seasons.

On the other hand, the unchanged petrol price means that private vehicle owners will not see any immediate relief. Petrol remains one of the most widely used fuels in urban areas, but its rate has been maintained at the same level as the last fortnight.

Economic Context:

Fuel price adjustments in Pakistan are carried out on a fortnightly basis, reflecting international market trends and fluctuations in the rupee–dollar exchange rate. The latest move by the government comes at a time when inflationary pressures remain high, and transport costs directly affect commodity prices in local markets.

Analysts believe that while the Rs 3 cut in diesel will have a modest positive effect, more significant reductions would be required to bring noticeable relief to the masses. Nonetheless, the move is being seen as a step toward easing the financial burden on key economic sectors.

📌 New Fuel Prices (Effective Sept 1, 2025):

  • Petrol: Rs 264.61 per litre (no change)
  • Diesel: Rs 269.99 per litre (Rs 3 cut)
