PM Shehbaz Meets Gilgit-Baltistan Heroes Who Saved 300 Lives

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday met three extraordinary men from Gilgit-Baltistan whose courage and quick thinking saved the lives of nearly 300 villagers from a devastating glacial lake outburst flood.

The heroes — Waseet Khan, Ansar, and Muhammad Khan — were invited to the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad where they were honored with special recognition and financial rewards.

The Incident: A Village Saved:

The dramatic event unfolded in Roshan village, Ghanche District, when a local shepherd noticed unusual signs of a glacial lake outburst. Realizing the danger, he immediately alerted residents through mobile phone calls and warnings.

Thanks to this swift action, over 300 people evacuated safely before the floodwaters reached their homes. While livestock and property were damaged, no lives were lost.

Prime Minister’s Tribute:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the men as “true national heroes” and presented them each with PKR 2.5 million in cash along with official certificates of recognition.

They displayed a sense of duty and responsibility that saved hundreds of lives. The entire nation is proud of them,” the Prime Minister said.

He further announced that Roshan village will be developed into a model colony with modern infrastructure.
