City authorities have issued a traffic advisory for residents as heavy rainfall is forecast to lash Karachi over the next three days, raising concerns about urban flooding and road blockages.
Traffic Management Plan
According to the Karachi Traffic Police, several major routes may face diversions and partial closures depending on the intensity of rain. Key areas identified include Shahrah-e-Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Guru Mandir, Nagan Chowrangi, and Korangi Industrial Area.
Alternative routes have been suggested for commuters, while traffic wardens and rescue teams will remain on high alert to manage flow and assist motorists.
Public Advisory
Officials have urged citizens to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall.
- Keep vehicles away from low-lying areas known for waterlogging.
- Stay updated through traffic helplines and FM radio announcements.
- The Sindh government has also directed relevant departments to ensure de-watering pumps and emergency teams are deployed across vulnerable points.
Weather Forecast
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy showers accompanied by strong winds and thunder across Karachi and adjoining districts until Thursday. The Met Office cautioned about the possibility of urban flooding, power outages, and traffic disruption in low-lying neighborhoods.
Emergency Response
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) have activated control rooms to coordinate with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Citizens have been advised to report emergencies via helplines 15 and 1915.
