The Sindh government has announced a holiday for all public and private educational institutions across Karachi today (Wednesday) in view of the ongoing heavy monsoon rains that have disrupted routine life in the city.

According to the notification issued by the Commissioner Karachi’s office, all schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed for one day as a precautionary measure. The decision was taken after various parts of Karachi were hit by continuous heavy showers on Tuesday night, leading to waterlogging, traffic jams, and power breakdowns in several areas.

Officials stated that the move is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and staff as rainwater continues to accumulate on major roads, making commuting difficult. The Meteorological Department has also forecast more heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, which could further worsen the situation.

Private schools’ associations have welcomed the government’s decision, saying it was necessary in light of the weather conditions. Parents have also expressed relief that students will not have to travel during unsafe circumstances.

It is worth mentioning that Karachi has been experiencing intermittent rains since the start of this week, with low-lying areas particularly affected. Rescue teams have been placed on alert, and authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve.
