Bajaur: A bomb blast struck a local cricket match in Khar tehsil of Bajaur district on Saturday, killing at least one person and injuring several others, police confirmed.

The explosion occurred at the Kausar Cricket Ground, where dozens of spectators had gathered. According to District Police Officer Waqas Rafique, the device was an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the site.

“It appears to be a targeted attack,” the DPO said, adding that several children were among the injured.

Rescue teams rushed the victims to nearby hospitals, where emergency was declared. The ground was cordoned off as bomb disposal experts swept the area.

The incident comes as Bajaur remains tense amid Operation Sarbakaf, a military offensive against militant hideouts in Mamund tehsil. The district has seen a spate of recent attacks, including an IED blast in July that killed five people and a mortar strike in August that left three dead.

Authorities have launched an investigation, while security has been tightened across the region.
