Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced his resignation following days of intense protests across the country. The demonstrations, led by opposition parties and civil society groups, demanded his step down over allegations of misgovernance, rising inflation, and failure to address public grievances.

According to reports, large crowds gathered in Kathmandu and other major cities, chanting slogans and calling for Oli’s removal. Protesters accused his government of ignoring economic hardships faced by citizens, including unemployment and rising fuel prices.

In a televised address to the nation, KP Sharma Oli said he was resigning “in the interest of stability and unity,” adding that he respected the democratic will of the people. He defended his government’s record but acknowledged the growing unrest made it difficult to continue.

Opposition leaders welcomed the resignation, terming it a victory for democracy. “The people have spoken, and the government was left with no choice but to step aside,” one opposition leader said.

The President of Nepal is expected to invite the largest parliamentary party to form the next government. Political analysts believe Oli’s resignation could trigger a period of uncertainty as parties begin coalition negotiations.

The protests have now calmed, but observers say the situation remains fragile, with the public demanding immediate reforms and relief measures.
