Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on Thursday on a day-long solidarity visit following the recent Israeli airstrikes on the Qatari capital.
Upon arrival at Doha International Airport, the prime minister was received by senior Qatari officials and Pakistan’s ambassador. During his stay, he is scheduled to meet Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other top Qatari leaders to convey Pakistan’s condolences and support in the aftermath of the attack.
Earlier this week, Israeli fighter jets carried out strikes targeting alleged Hamas officials in Doha, leaving at least six people dead, including a Qatari security officer. The assault marked a rare attack inside a Gulf nation and triggered sharp condemnation from Qatar, which termed it a violation of sovereignty and international law.
Speaking before his departure, Prime Minister Shehbaz strongly denounced the Israeli action, describing it as “a blatant act of aggression that threatens regional peace and stability.” He stressed that Pakistan stood “shoulder to shoulder with Qatar” and urged Muslim countries to unite against Israel’s “reckless provocations.”
The prime minister also lauded Qatar’s mediation role in Gaza, warning that the Israeli strikes risk undermining ongoing diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
Regional observers note that Shehbaz Sharif’s visit highlights Pakistan’s commitment to regional solidarity. The UAE and other Arab states have already extended diplomatic support to Qatar, while calls for an emergency Arab-Islamic summit continue to gain momentum.
International voices, including the United Nations, have also expressed concern that the Israeli escalation could destabilize the wider Gulf region.
