A tragic accident occurred on Thursday when two goods trains collided near Renala Khurd in Punjab, killing a driver and injuring at least one crew member, according to railway officials.
The collision took place in the early hours when one train, reportedly carrying containers, was parked on the track and another goods train rammed into it from behind. The impact caused several wagons to derail, while rescue teams and railway staff rushed to the site to carry out relief operations.
Eyewitnesses said the accident created a loud explosion-like sound, with mangled metal and derailed bogies scattered across the track. The deceased driver was trapped in the cabin and later retrieved by rescue workers.
Railway authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident, citing possible negligence in train signaling and communication as the cause. The injured assistant driver was shifted to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
Traffic on the affected rail section was suspended temporarily, causing delays to passenger services. Efforts are underway to clear the track and restore operations.
Minister for Railways expressed grief over the loss of life and ordered a comprehensive investigation, vowing action against those found responsible for negligence.
