The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported large-scale devastation across Punjab as relentless floods continue to inundate villages, displace communities, and threaten major river belts.

According to official data, over 4.2 million people have been affected so far, with more than 4,100 villages submerged across the province. The death toll has climbed to nearly 60, while dozens have sustained injuries.

Rising River Levels

Authorities confirmed that the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers are experiencing high to exceptionally high flood levels at multiple points. At Ganda Singh Wala, the Sutlej River recorded an “exceptionally high” flood flow, while water levels remain critical at Balloki, Sidhani, Shahdara, and downstream points along the Ravi. Similarly, heavy discharge is being witnessed at Trimmu, Panjnad, and Head Muhammad Wala on the Chenab River.

Water reservoirs are also under strain, with Tarbela Dam filled to maximum capacity and Mangla Dam at nearly 80% storage, raising concerns over further discharges.

Mass Evacuations Underway

The PDMA reported that around 2.14 million people have been evacuated to safer areas. Nearly 1.5 million livestock have also been shifted to higher ground as rescue teams continue operations in affected districts. Relief camps, medical centers, and veterinary facilities have been set up across multiple flood-hit areas.

Emergency health services are also being provided to counter risks of waterborne diseases, dengue, and sanitation-related outbreaks, with anti-dengue and fumigation drives being carried out in relief shelters.

High Alert in Southern Punjab

The authority has warned of potential flash flooding in hill torrent areas of DG Khan and Rajanpur, urging residents to remain vigilant. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued continued forecasts of high water flows, noting that additional rainfall could worsen the situation.

Relief Efforts and Challenges

While large-scale relief operations are underway, access to remote areas remains a challenge due to damaged roads and submerged infrastructure. Many displaced families are facing shortages of food, clean water, and medical supplies.

The PDMA has assured that all available resources are being mobilized, and coordination with district administrations is ongoing to ensure timely rescue and rehabilitation.
