Washington: Former US President Donald Trump stirred global debate after posting on social media that India and Russia appear to have been “lost” to China following recent meetings of their leaders with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump’s Statement

In his post, Trump criticized current US foreign policy, suggesting that Washington is failing to counter Beijing’s growing global influence.

“India and Russia seem to have been lost to China. This is the result of weak US leadership,” Trump wrote.

Strategic Concerns

Trump’s remarks come at a time when China is strengthening its diplomatic and economic ties with both India and Russia. The meeting between Xi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted cooperation on trade, energy, and regional security.

Political Context

Analysts believe Trump’s statement reflects his long-standing narrative that the US under President Joe Biden is being “outmaneuvered” by China. The former president frequently uses such claims to reinforce his image as a stronger leader on foreign policy, especially ahead of the 2024 election cycle.

Global Reactions

While Trump’s comments were welcomed by some of his supporters, others argued that India’s relationship with the US remains strong, pointing to ongoing defense and technology collaborations. Russia, however, has increasingly aligned itself with China amid Western sanctions over the Ukraine war.

Looking Ahead

Observers suggest that Trump’s remarks are likely to fuel further debate on US-China competition and Washington’s role in balancing relations with India and Russia in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
