Speaking at a press briefing in New York, Trump said that Turkey’s continued reliance on Russian energy undermines global efforts to pressure Moscow over its foreign policies. He noted that the U.S. was prepared to offer Turkey alternative trade deals and energy agreements that could reduce its dependence on Russia.
“Turkey has a strong economy and a strategic position. It does not need to rely on Russia for oil. We will create better, safer, and more profitable trade deals,” Trump stated.
The comments come at a time when Turkey is balancing its ties with Russia and NATO allies, particularly amid tensions in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Analysts say that Trump’s remarks could shape future diplomatic and trade discussions if he returns to office.
Observers in Ankara have yet to respond officially, but the remarks highlight increasing international scrutiny on Turkey’s energy policies and its geopolitical alignment.
