At least 20 people were injured on Tuesday after a drone, reportedly launched by Yemeni Houthi rebels, struck the southern Israeli city of Eilat. Two of the injured are in critical condition.
The attack, claimed by the Houthi group “Ansar Allah,” is seen as an expression of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. According to Israeli authorities, the drone targeted a commercial area in Eilat, causing panic among civilians. Israel’s air defense system attempted to intercept the drone but was unsuccessful.
The Israeli army cordoned off the affected area and launched investigations into the incident. This is the latest in a series of Houthi attacks on Israel. Previously, in July 2024, a drone struck an apartment building in Tel Aviv, injuring 10 people and killing one. In May 2025, the group also targeted Ben Gurion Airport with a ballistic missile, wounding eight. Israel responded with airstrikes in Yemen, killing six and injuring 40.
Israeli defense officials have condemned the attack and warned of strong retaliatory measures. The international community has also called for restraint and emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation.
This latest strike underscores the growing reach of Houthi forces and highlights ongoing tensions in the region.
