The number of dengue fever cases in Pakistan is climbing steeply, with Punjab and Islamabad among the worst-affected areas, according to health authorities.
- In Punjab, confirmed cases have surpassed 1,000 in the province, with 22 new cases reported in Lahore alone in the past 24 hours. The total caseload in the province has reached 1,055.
- In Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), the total since January 2025 has crossed 300 confirmed dengue cases. Daily inspections of high-risk areas are underway.
- In Rawalpindi and other cities, hospitals have seen increasing dengue patients presenting with high fever, body aches, and other symptoms. Flood-after effects and stagnant water due to recent rains are being blamed for accelerating mosquito breeding.
Health officials warn that unless preventive measures are urgently stepped up, the situation may spiral, especially with favorable weather conditions (warm temperatures and humidity) supporting mosquito proliferation. Fogging, larval control, public awareness campaigns, and rapid response to hotspots are being emphasized by authorities.
