Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to expand with the addition of two new franchises, as announced by PSL CEO Salman Naseer during a press conference in Karachi. The move marks a major milestone for the tournament as it prepares for its next decade of growth.
Speaking to the media, Salman Naseer reflected on the league’s journey, noting that when the PSL first launched, few investors showed interest, but five franchises took the bold step to believe in the vision. “There were attempts to discredit the league, but PSL continued to progress and grow stronger every year,” he stated.
The CEO revealed that after ten successful years, all existing franchise agreements have now expired, paving the way for a new valuation and auction process. “We had decided from the beginning that after the tenth edition, we would reassess the league’s overall value and structure,” he explained.
Salman Naseer confirmed that an auction will be held for two new PSL franchises, with bidding parties provided a pool of city names from which they can select their preferred team base.
He also announced a significant development in sponsorship, revealing that HBL will remain the title sponsor for the next two years. “The new deal represents a 505% increase in value compared to the previous agreement, based on an independent valuation,” Naseer added.
The inclusion of new teams is expected to further elevate the PSL’s commercial value, fan engagement, and competitiveness, positioning it as one of the fastest-growing T20 leagues in the world.
