Karachi’s roads once again turned deadly as two separate accidents involving heavy vehicles claimed the lives of two people and left several others injured. The incidents have reignited public anger over the unchecked movement of heavy traffic within the city.
The first accident occurred near Liaquatabad No. 10, where a speeding truck ran over a motorcyclist, killing him on the spot. The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Sabir. Following the tragic incident, enraged citizens gathered at the scene, pelting the truck with stones, smashing its windows, and setting it ablaze. Protesters also attacked other passing heavy vehicles, damaging several of them.
Police officials confirmed that the truck driver managed to flee from the site, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. Authorities have increased patrols in the area to prevent further violence.
In a separate incident near Malir Model Colony, another truck driver struck a group of motorcyclists, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to two others, who were later shifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The accident sparked further outrage among residents, who assaulted the truck driver and damaged the vehicle before police intervened and took the driver into custody.
These repeated accidents highlight the growing safety concerns surrounding heavy traffic operating during daytime hours in densely populated areas of Karachi. Residents have urged city authorities to strictly enforce traffic restrictions on heavy vehicles and take immediate steps to ensure road safety.
