In a nail-biting semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, India Women defeated Australia Women to secure a place in the final against South Africa, scheduled for 2nd November.

Chasing a challenging target of 339 runs, India reached the score with 3 balls to spare, losing 5 wickets. The historic victory was led by star batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored an unbeaten 127 runs, earning the Player of the Match award.

Speaking after the match, Jemimah Rodrigues expressed gratitude to her faith, family, coaches, and fans. “I couldn’t have done this alone. This win isn’t just mine; it belongs to the whole of India,” she said. She revealed that she had been informed about batting at number three only five minutes before taking the field, and emphasized her focus was solely on winning for the team.

Reflecting on her recent struggles, Jemimah mentioned the emotional toll after being dropped from last year’s World Cup squad, stating, “It was a very tough month, full of mental stress and anxiety, but I knew God was with me.” She credited Deepthi Sharma for steadying her during critical moments and praised the crowd for their unwavering support throughout the match.

On the Australian side, Ellyse Perry, captain of Australia Women, acknowledged her team’s shortcomings. “Despite a strong start, we lost focus in key moments. Batting, bowling, and fielding errors cost us dearly. India held their nerves and played better cricket,” Perry said. She highlighted young opener Litchfield for her stellar performance and announced she will not participate in the next World Cup, expressing optimism about the team’s future.

India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur hailed the victory as the result of years of hard work, trust, and teamwork. “We learned from our past mistakes and planned our strategy carefully in the final overs. This win is a reward for our perseverance and belief,” she said, praising Jemimah Rodrigues for her exceptional performance and calm approach under pressure.

With South Africa already securing their final spot after defeating England in the first semi-final, India’s historic win sets the stage for an exciting ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final showdown.
