K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Moonis Abdullah Alvi has warned that the recent tariff reductions announced by NEPRA could eventually affect consumers and disrupt the company’s operations.
In an official statement, Alvi said that NEPRA’s major revisions to K-Electric’s multi-year tariff have brought significant challenges for the utility provider. “The changes made by NEPRA are substantial and could impact our ability to maintain smooth operations,” he noted.
The CEO explained that the previous tariff, issued in June this year, had been approved after two and a half years of consultations, research, audits, and verification from independent sources. However, NEPRA has now introduced major amendments just a few months later.
Alvi stated that the company’s management is currently evaluating measures to sustain operations and ensure continuous electricity supply despite the financial impact of the revised tariff.
He emphasized that while K-Electric will strive to minimize the burden on consumers, it is inevitable that the tariff changes will have some effect on end users.
The CEO further revealed that details of the revised tariff structure and its implications have been presented to the company’s board for review and strategic response.
