| Warns of Cross-Border Response if Afghan / Photo File (Geo News) |
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that Islamabad will respond forcefully if its territorial boundaries are violated or if Afghan soil is used to launch attacks against Pakistan. Speaking to journalists at Parliament House, Khawaja Asif said recent talks with the Afghan Taliban had concluded the previous evening and made clear Kabul’s true intentions to mediators.
The minister criticized elements within the Afghan administration, saying they appear unwilling or unable to act as a responsible state. “There is no remedy now except prayer,” he said, adding that some factions in Kabul seem to be steering Afghanistan back toward past instability. He accused the Taliban leadership of lacking the statecraft required to define or uphold the norms of a functioning state.
Khawaja Asif stressed that Pakistan reserves the right to take proportionate action if cross-border violations occur: “If our borders are breached, we will strike back — and if necessary, we will answer from inside Afghanistan.” He said efforts to secure written guarantees from Afghan authorities had so far failed, with Kabul reportedly accepting certain points verbally but refusing to provide formal assurances.
The defence minister described Kabul’s current stance as one of resistance and obfuscation, cautioning that continued inaction or obstructive behavior would force Pakistan to consider stronger measures to protect its security and citizens.
